The high performance Magnaro Aramid® rope is a custom-made mooring rope which is often selected to perform in very hot areas of the world. Where conventional high performance ropes significantly lose strength around 50°C which can lead to life threatening situation, the Magnaro Aramid® rope withstands temperatures up to 427° C. In addition, the Magnaro Aramid® mooring rope has an excellent strength-to-weight ratio, low snap back and negligible creep. In cooperation with Teijin, TEHO Ropes supports a recycle program in which a used Magnaro Aramid® mooring rope is bought back after its service life time resulting in reducing the environmental footprint. MEG4 requests without SDMBL specifications

By |2021-08-31T18:06:03-06:002021-08-31|Uncategorized|0 Comments

MEG4 requests without SDMBL specifications In our previous post, we addressed snap back as a danger in the mooring process. Prior to the actual mooring of a vessel, the selection and purchasing of a mooring rope contributes to the safety on board. Whilst very important, this step is often under exposed while it’s unmistakenly playing a vital role in the actual mooring on board. Two years after the introduction of MEG4, we see that the market is still struggling on the technical purchasing side. Technical compliance, but more than rarely also purchasing who have not yet been fully trained about MEG4. Too often, this results in incorrect enquiries, requests to change the values on certificates or examples in which is requested to quote/supply without any reference to SDMBL. In any of these or unmentioned cases, this first step in technical purchasing is essential. As executed incorrect can sort to a snowball effect in which lack of knowledge means danger on board. Safety first during mooring operations

By |2021-08-31T18:06:03-06:002021-08-31|Uncategorized|0 Comments

During any mooring operation safety is the most important thing. A rope failure can have severe consequences to people, the vessel and equipment. Therefore, ropes selection, service and management of the mooring line is of utmost importance. Training of crew about the rope handling and the dangers of mooring is even as needful. If a rope parts, the energy that is absorbed within the rope is released by boundless force and with a high velocity. This is called snap back. This released energy will make the failed rope move around fast and uncontrolled while the mooring rope tries to recoil to its original shape. Anyone standing in the path of a parted rope in mooring operation doesn’t have time to flee. Only luck can prevent one from injury or even death. The internet is full of footage about snap back and the severe injuries to people. And although the many incidents are known to us all there are still too many accidents happening during mooring. One of the most well-known incidents in the industry is the failure of a rope on board the LNG carrier Zarga in 2015 where a deck officer was severely injured. This event sparked the introduction [...]
