Safety First in Mooring Operations
Safety First in Mooring Operations! When it comes to mooring operations, safety is always our top priority. A rope failure can lead to severe consequences for people, vessels, and equipment. That’s why choosing the right ropes and proper management of mooring lines is crucial. Equally important is the training of crew members on rope handling and understanding the dangers of mooring. A rope that parts during operations can release immense energy and cause a hazardous “snap back” effect. Be prepared and prioritize safety by using high-quality ropes and investing in crew training to minimize risks and ensure secure operations.

Mooring equipment for the Nautica
The FSO Safer, moored just nine kilometers off Yemen’s Ras Isa peninsula since 1988, is a ticking time bomb. Holding a colossal 1 million barrels of oil, it’s at risk of exploding or breaking apart due to years of decay amidst conflict in Yemen. Such a catastrophe would have disastrous effects on the region and beyond. In response, the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) has launched an urgent mission to transfer the oil to a safer vessel, the VLCC Nautica. We’re proud to announce that TEHO Ropes has been chosen to provide the crucial mooring equipment for the Nautica. Our role in this operation indirectly contributes to the prevention of a potentially catastrophic oil spill in the Red Sea. Together, we’re working towards a safer maritime future! Read more…
The importance of maintaining mooring deck equipment
At TEHO Ropes, we understand the importance of maintaining mooring deck equipment to ensure safety and prolong the service life of mooring ropes onboard. Our expert Rigging team is regularly on vessels for installation, testing, inspection, and recertification of essential equipment. Don’t let poor maintenance be the root cause of rapidly deteriorating mooring ropes! Our skilled TEHO Ropes riggers have found cases where ropes are damaged due to abrasion from contact with deck lattices. This wear can lead to hazardous situations and even rope breakage. Always clear the path of the mooring rope on deck and ensure proper inspection before use. Stay safe and maintain your equipment with TEHO Ropes!

Ensure that twists are not being introduced into the rope
During installation, it is important to ensure that twists are not being introduced into the rope. In order to prevent twisting, ropes should be installed using a pivoted stand or at minimum, a turn table. Ropes should be installed top to top or bottom to bottom. Contact us for more information on the installation, maintenance and inspection of fibre and wire ropes.
Re-splicing of mooring ropes
Re-splicing a mooring rope is a very important skill needed onboard of vessels. A wrong splice can weaken the rope and increases the chance of rope failure. TEHO Ropes have specialists available to train crew and technical management on how to splice fibre ropes.
